KHONHAA CHIANGMAI 2009 ♥

November 28, 2009 2 comments

I love Chiangmai! Chan rak Chiangmai! 8D (Don’t worry, I love Singapore too)

Well, Khonhaa Chiangmai 2009 was a blast! And judging by the facebook comments and photos and blogs, I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way :D

Day 1 – 11 November 2009

1025: Assemble at Changi International Airport, Terminal One for check in

My check-in luggage was 11kg! Shirlyn’s was 19 kg :D Was really excited as it was my first time going on an overseas trip by PLANE with SC (: Or a school trip for that matter.

1225: Flight departure

Sat next to the year 2s in Group 2 (:  Landing for the transit in Thailand was horrible. Thought I was going to die from extreme pressures because my ears were hurting like mad. Thought that my eardrums would burst D:

1650: Arrival at Chiangmai airport and met by representatives; Drive to hotel for check in and to freshen up

Roomed with Ada, the room was quite nice, but the view from the window was quite freaky hahahaha. Sheena, Ada, Me and Shirlyn (:

1900: Dinner and free time

Dinner was spent collating names and passport numbers for the pickup truck ride tomorrow for group leaders, and Yusiang and I ended up sitting at the teachers’ table for dinner cos we came in late and there wasn’t any space left at our group’s tables. Had quite a rough night in Tingwei/Vivian’s room with the entire exco. Showered at around 2.15am and slept at around 3am in their room. So sorry to Ada for not being a good room-mate, and thanks Sheena and Jiaxin for accompanying her! (:

Day 2 – 12 November 2009

0700: Rise and Shine

0800: Breakfast

0900: Depart by pickup truck (10 people to a truck)

1100: Tour of Chiangdao cave and packed lunch

1200: Drive to start of trekking point and start trekking to Palong Village with enroute stop at Karen Village

1600: Reached Karen Village

1700: Reached Palong Village. Rest and free time.

1800: Dinner

1900: Free time to mingle with villagers and experience first hand the traditional lifestyle of the Hill tribes

In-house local camp (SC) 2009!

November 21, 2009 Leave a comment

I’m in my room on a saturday afternoon within a pile of worksheets and unfiled assignments and EOY papers and a kitkat. It’s nice not going out on saturday :D

And heck filing when it’s the holidays. I’ll file them later tonight though, can’t stand the mess.

So yeah, I’m back in Singapore! Technically I was back a week ago but since I had DHSBT training camp immediately after flying back it doesn’t count. Will post on DHST training camp later. I do things in chronological order (:

We were staying till late the previous day to prepare for in-house local camp, and had a little celebratory dinner at Subway@Parkway. Glad to know it paid off!

In-house local camp on 9 November was fun! Even though there were some bumps along the way, it all worked out fine in the end (:

EXCO arrived at 7.30am to prepare logistics and run through everything once again. Then the SCs came at 9am and we started out with some thai lessons! Chan rak kun! :D (I love you)

Icebreakers were cold at 9.45am :D Literally. Haha we went around putting ice down the SCs’ backs while they were answering questions :D Quite a few screams eh.

Then came preparation for the level trainings. Originally the Year 3 training was to be done in LT1, but there was some miscommunication along the way and the november group of STEP people used LT1. So in the end Year 3s moved up to LT4 so it’s okay :D The training was quite epic for year 3! Gordon, Ting Wei and I ended up having a dialouge session with 8 other Year 3 SCs hehe (: Quite a cosy feeling.

Lunch was nasi lemak and I only ate the rice and cucumber since I couldn’t eat the otah and nuts and ikan bilis since my sore throat was really really horrible. Drank 2 whole bottles of green tea but not much use haha.

Mass games was fun! :D It rained very heavily after we placed the logistics at the track area so end up we went straight into wet weather plan (even though we didn’t plan for it haha). So groups 1 to 6 used the entire year 3/4 block from floor 1 – 6 :D It was really cool seeing all 6 groups using every level and having a mass competition! Then ended up resting in the LT while waiting for the rain to stop.

Then started to prepare for 酸甜苦辣咸淡 :D   Hehe it was fun watching all the groups run past without noticing me sitting

just in front of the hostel dining area :D I think I must have looked quite retarded sitting at the benches there cutting up lemons while waiting for some groups to find me :D Quite a few locations changed place due to the rain and exams haha but it all turned out okay!

While the SCs went out for dinner, the EXCO stayed in the SC room to chiong-eat some rice and prepare for KIDNAPPED! :D Quite hectic since we had a short timeframe to work with and so many things to prepare. It was quite fun when we met up with the SCs who were supposed to be ‘kidnapped’ by us and to lock them in the classrooms is no easy feat. Cassandra and I could not find Gordon so we went around locking the other pairs in the classrooms in the dark while trying not to be caught by any SC. I felt like I was some secret agent doing a mission then hehe (: After locking Gordon and Cassandra in, found Egan and went up with him to LT3 to do briefing for SCs. The stairs were quite

scary! Then found Creshelle and the game started!

While the SCs rushed down to to start finding lightsticks, Egan, Creshelle and I sneaked down to the classrooms to be locked up. Well I wasn’t locked up but I locked Egan and Creshelle up so yeah. Quite scary walking around the classrooms which were all dark alone to make sure everyone was locked up!

Then tried to find Vivian who was supposedly in the canteen to pass her the keys of the 2 rooms but couldn’t. Found her near a staircase though haha! Went back to the foyer staircase to find Charlotte and guard the gate with her hehe :D It’s quite fun seeing the reactions of the groups that come up and see us haha.

Then things started to get really messy when suddenly Vivian came up saying that one key for the room Gordon and cassandra were in is missing. Went down with her to check everything again and sort things out, then end up Yusiang came down saying that they unlocked themselves already from the inside. Was really scared that some groups got lost or uncontactable or the keys they had with them went missing. Thank goodness everything was okay in the end :D

And the missing key was found the very next day :D Credits to Gordon, Yusiang, Mrs Low, and the person who helped them find it (I forgot who sorry). Thanks :D

So in the end, in-house local training camp was a success! :D

You’d be my only, no need to worry. Even if the sky is falling down..

I’m flying off to Chiangmai tomorrow.

Felt really horrible today, medicine makes me sicker. Hopefully I’ll be fine before the flight tomorrow!

And I’m quite worried for DHSBT camp haha..

Update more when I get back from both camps!

Oh hey, it’s Sunday!

And OMG it rhymes.

I swear I don’t know if I’m total madness sometimes.

Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used
synonymously. A person maybe proud without being vain. Pride relates
more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others
think of us.
- Pride and prejudice

In all honesty, I know not why I am reading ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and going on to facebook and watching random movies on the internet when I have a dozen or more things to do and deadlines to meet too.

I think I’m quite amazing sometimes.

FRIDAY was training after school, and then dinner with team at Parkway (: It’s been a long long long time since we had some sort of outing together. Reminds me of last year where we used to walk to Parkway for ice cream at Macs or Scoopz after training at CSC. At least it was nice! Training was tiring though. And surprisingly I managed to hold on and finished the logistics list.  Yay to me!

SATURDAY was SC chiangmai camp briefing in the morning. Reached school at around 9.45am and helped He Lao Shi figure out how to set up the AV system and on the aircon in LT1 8D  Then after briefing there were some conflict so end up had an impromptu meeting with Creshelle, Vivian and Shirlyn in SC room to sort it out. Then did logistics checking in SC room too before heading off for lunch. Creshelle, Shirlyn and I went to katong laksa for lunch 8D And then walked over to Parkway for dessert at a new place called ‘Toby’s the dessert asylum’ 8D  The desserts there were really expensive but quite worth it haha.

Today was just slacking. Did housework in the morning, finished up the physics practical report I owe Mr Lim and did part of the Trigo 3 assignment 24. Then went onto facebook and used to computer don’t know doing what till lunch, then watched TV after that. Watched ‘Romantic princess’ and it still made me cry even though it was about the 13th time I’ve seen it. Then went onto the computer and did some editing of the DAS till about 5pm. Then went to ECP for inline-skating! It was quite fun (: Though I went alone haha. Skated for about 2 hours, about 20km maybe? Skated all the way from my house to slightly after DHS and back again. Hehe it was fun :D I want to go ice-skating next!

Oh yes, on tuesday something miraculous occured. I was feeling very down about some things, and thought I was perfectly horrible. Then I thought about the many many things I have to do and was feeling rather overwhelmed. Then after SC meeting and dinner at Delifrance at Parkway with EXCO (minus Egan, Gordon and Yusiang) went home by taxi. The taxi driver whom I met, Mr Adi, was very very nice. Though he initially drove the wrong way to Kampong arang that area, then after that he kept apologising. Thought there was no need to though. Then he related a story of his to me, which I thought was very apt at that point in time. What he said was that whenever life throws stones at you and deals you a bad hand over and over again, never give up. Hang on a little longer, and things will clear up. It was so applicable to the situation I was in that I nearly cried after I got down.

This reminds me of a quote from a book:

The universe always answers when you call.

So maybe I was already calling for help myself, just that I didn’t know it.

Seems like I need to listen to myself more often (:

And for those out there who are swimming and think that they’re gonna drown soon, keep on swimming to stay afloat! There’ll be sights of land soon, or at the very least a rescue boat will come along. And maybe a cute lifeguard will be there too ;D
